There are many known ways of relieving stress and anxiety, but here in the Philippines, consulting a psychiatrist is a sensitive issue. Not everyone welcomes the idea of opening up their problems to a doctor, lest they be tagged as mentally unstable. Because of this, most Filipinos would rather keep and confront troubles on their own.
Aware of some people’s biases against psychotherapists, Dr. Randy Misael S. Dellosa has introduced the idea of a “life coach” or “life strategist.”
Some people don’t have big problems or dark experiences,” relates Dr. Randy. “Many know it is important to change their lives, but they simply do not know where to begin. With the help of a “life coach” people learn to cope with stress. They also realize what they want for their life, and they are helped to develop a specific plan to achieve their goals.”
Dr. Randy narrates how the life coach system works: “We develop a plan of action for lifestyle transformation that will work best for the person. We address issues like time management, burnout symptoms, and helpful attitudes for hurdling challenges. We consider all aspects of life—physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. We also ensure confidentiality and we make sure that our clients feel listened to and understood.”
Dr. Randy founded The InnerLife Wellness Center for those seeking personal growth and holistic wellness; the Life Change Counseling Center and Psychiatry Clinic for people with life problems; and the Life Change Recovery Center for patients with psychiatric or drug-related problems.
